      Scientists don’t want to actually change human DNA — that would be dangerous and most people think it’s wrong to experiment on humans like that. But we ARE making a big effort to understand DNA better, so that we can invent better treatments for diseases. Cancer is a disease where the genome (DNA) in some cells goes wrong, so we’d like to find ways of identifying those cells early on and killing them. And we might get better prevention or cures for diseases caused by bacteria or viruses if we understood those creatures DNA better.
      We’re making progress with all of these things, but there is still a long way to go.
