• Question: Ok so if you could change anything about your proffesion what would it be and why? :)

      I would make it less competitive. I think competition in science doesn’t always lead to the best work–some scientists prefer to work slowly and that’s fine. Also, sometimes people in different labs want to work on the same thing and I think that more collaboration has got to be good–the more brains working on something the more inventive solutions people can come up with.

      @janecharlesworth’s answer is excellent. If I had to suggest something extra, then for me personally it would be good to have less admin to do, and more time for the science.

      I agree with Jane and Nick. I would also make it so that there isn’t so much pressure to produce publications. I feel that this makes researchers more inclined to do ‘safe’ research that will guarentee results, while avoiding ‘risky’ research that probably won’t work, but would have very important consequences if it did.
