Hi @haleemakhan
It’s great to aspire to go to Oxford or Cambridge to do your degree. However, if you don’t get in, don’t despair as there are many opportunities later in life to study and work at these universities. I did all of my degrees in the North of England and then when I moved down south I became connected to both Cambridge and Oxford Universities through my work. For medicine you should pick a course that has the best ‘hands-on’ teaching facilities where you can learn through case-studies and through actually meeting patients. When I was doing my degrees the best courses for this were actually in Southampton and Newcastle, so it is definitely worth looking around.

Have a look at the courses at lots of universities. I have heard Oxford and Cambridge are not good places to study medicine if you want to become a doctor (I went to Oxford and studied chemistry, so I knew medics) because they are not very people-focussed and really design the course for people who want to go into medical research or be surgeons who don’t talk to the patients. This may or may not be what you’re looking for. Oxford and Cambridge are very good universities, but they have their limitations: Cambridge doesn’t even offer chemistry – you have to take natural sciences!
