A colleague and I were interesting in exploring the size of the human genome in a way that is understandable and interesting. Saying that the human genome is 3 billion letters long doesn’t really mean much to anyone. We thought that if you could show all the letters going past you on a computer screen it would give a better understanding. In the same way as you watch a clock tick gives a sense of time, watching 3 billions letters scrolling from right to left gives a sense of the size.
