      @mynameisdavie
      I guess we could over-treat ourselves with antibiotics so that every bacterial infection is resistant to treatment and then we could all die of a simple infection. Either that or a massive meteriological clash from the universe. Or maybe death by reality TV….??

      Planet Earth will be destroyed when the Sun turns into a Red Giant as it runs out of fuel in about 11 billion years. It’s unlikely that humans as we are now will exist on Earth then, so it’s not something that we should worry about.

      There is a chance that life on Earth could be dramatically changed before that if a massive meteorite were hit us. As happened with the dinosaurs.

      In a few billion years, the sun will expand to such a size that it will swallow up the earth and destroy it. However, that is a long way away, especially when you consider that humans have only existed for around a hundred thousand years. I think that by then we will either have gone extinct as a species, or have conqured the stars and started inhabiting other planets.

      I think that in billions of years the sun will run out of fuel and explode. However it’s likely that humans will have gone extinct long before that, so we don’t really need to worry. To put this in context, most species only exist for a few million years before they go extinct.
