      Our genome is not the same as a banana’s genome, but they are made out of the same chemicals (DNA). (Just like Justin Bieber is not the same as Katy Perry, even though you can listen to them both on CDs.) However, some parts of the human genome are very similar to some parts of a banana’s genome.

      You can prove this scientifically by doing experiments to get the genome DNA out of a human and a banana, and putting them into a machine that can read the DNA molecules. Then you use a computer to look for the bits that are the same, and the bits that are different.

      I’ve read that about half of a human’s genome is similar to parts of a banana genome. That’s because if you look back in evolution, and you go far enough, then you find an ancient ancestor that we share with bananas!
