Hi @imagineozzi My favourite area is genetics and understanding how genes are passed on in families. How people react to this and what they want to know about it – this is my area of research.

My favourite is studying evolution. Darwin described such a simple process, passing on characteristics from parents to children with tiny modifications and with slightly more success for “better” characteristics. Yet it turns out that this explains all the different forms of life we see on Earth.

      Bioinformatics, of course!

Biology is becoming a very data rich science (think ‘Big Data’) and without software and computing will be impossible to discover the results of many experiments.

For example, it is now routine to look at what every single gene in a cell or tissue is going at the same time. That’s more than 20,000 bit of information. A human can’t possibly take that all in and understand it. This is where bioinformatics comes in.
