• Question: what makes popcorn pop?

      Hi @candyboo14 I think it is the chemical reaction that is caused by the heat which makes the corn expand out of its skin and go POP! I love popcorn!

      I think it is water inside the popcorn that boils but has nowhere to go, until the pressure is big enough to breach the kernal, at which point it explodes.

      A corn kernel is made up of a starchy inside with a hard, waterproof shell. When you heat them the inside of the kernels heats up and pressure builds up, eventually causing them to pop.
