      Light and electricity both existed before humans understood them or had a name for them — just think about light from the Sun, and electricity in lightning storms.
      People started controlling and using light as soon as they could control fire: they probably started using fires for the heat, but straightaway noticed that the light was useful at night time.
      As for electricity, humans started doing experiments in controlling it about 400 years ago. It was about 200 years ago when people worked out how to do anything useful like make batteries and motors.
