I’m not sure how one could turn invisible, but invisibility cloaks like the one Harry Potter has are something that scientists are really working on and aren’t really magic at all. If you search online you can read about some of the designs and how they work–usually by scattering light.

In fact, trying to be hidden is something that a lot of animals already do very well, by having fur or feathers that blend into the background they live in. People have copied this for years and army camouflage uniforms are one cheap way to be invisible. Another low-tech way to make yourself invisible (and give your enemies a headache!) is to paint black and white stripes so that people looking at you get confused and don’t know what they’re seeing: http://www.economist.com/node/18802922
